I think I am here

Phew what a week it has been - don't think I have had such a busy one in quite a while. Well obviously most of my weeks are busy - lots of planning to do and the inevtiable pile of marking - but this week was even more so.
This was Sunday afternoon:

Pick the idiot who thought it would be a good idea to have 23 sugar-filled, screaming kids running around the place. Yeah it was me and YES people, take my advice - GO TO McDONALD'S. Seriously though, it was a great afternoon. Mitch has never had a birthday party at home for all his mates because we always lived too far out of town but this year was different so he made the most of it. It started out as water play on the slip 'n' slide but it didn't take long for the kids to discover the pool (which i was wanting to be kept secret) but ah well, it was all in the name of fun.

I spent Monday and Tuesday putting the finishing touches on this:

These are just some of the 160 students that I am going to be calling 'mine' for the next 5 years. I have been wanting to be a Yr Co-ordinator at my school for about 6 years but having time off with the boys and only working part-time has meant that I have had to forego this privilege ... until now. I found out back in September that I had been appointed the Yr 8 Coordinator for 2009 so after many months of planning, arranging classes, visiting schools, nagging staff for assistance, Wednesday was the Yr 8 Trial Day. And for those of you who are in the know - the day was an awesome success - well apart from the popper incident anyway lol.

Then onto Thursday morning and Mitchell's actual birthday. Not too many good pics to be had, lots of blurry ones with his arms thrown up in the air to his shouts of yahoo to each new present he opened. As always, he was thoroughly spoilt but hey, he will only turn 6 once right???

Thursday lunch time saw me escape from the piles of paperwork left over from Transition Day to race down to Mitchell's school with yet another cake for him to share with his class:

THIS IS WHAT HE THOUGHT OF BEING TOLD HE HAD TO KISS THE CLOSEST GIRL IF HE TOUCHED THE BOTTOM OF THE CAKE WITH THE KNIFE - hmmmmmm doesn't look too please about that lol

LOOKS A TAD EMBARASSED BY ALL THE ATTENTION lol

And finally - well for the picture department anyway, Thursday night with Mitchell's school concert and Christmas Bash. The preppies were so cute - they all dressed up as Cowboys/Cowgirls and did a performance for us. (NOTE TO SELF: ASK SANTA FOR A LENSE WITH A BIGGER ZOOM!!! as none of the pictures of the performance turned out any good) but how cute does my little man look all done up in his Daddy's hat???!!!

And then onto Friday and our staff party. OMG what a night!!!! I had the BEST time. It was organised by our staffroom - well mainly Spanner - and it went off, TOTALLY ROCKED, best night i had in a long time and because this is my blog I am gunna hide all the pics hehehehehehehehe

Ok I think that is enough of an update for now. I will let you all get back to sleep. Sorry for boring you all hehehehe

Not enough hours in the day

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm does anyone know where I can buy more time??? Someone??? Anyone???

Lately I feel like I am either a headless chook and a swan (you know the one that looks so graceful floating across the water but below the surface they are paddling like crazy just to stay afloat). I think I will settle for swan - it sounds nicer than headless chook lol.

I have got fifty thousand little things to do in preparation for the Yr 7 Trial Day next week and don't seem to get enough time to sit down and do them. Add to the list my final lot of marking and report cards - which are due tomorrow morning AND hosting a birthday PARTY for Mister Six aka Darling Son 1 today.

Oh well if it is all meant to work, it will work and if not, well too bad, I can only do what I can. But i suppose sitting here typing about it isn't getting any of the things on my list done so I should go and tackle creating the classes and making the party favour bags. I might be back later with some pics of the big Par-Tay (as DS2 likes to say).

Have a great sunday everyone.

Not a lot to say, just a half-finished peice of showntell

Not a lot has been happening in my world - work is busy busy busy. You would think with the Yr 12's gone, Yr 11's on camp and the Yr 10's on alternate activities for the week that things would have slowed down for me but alas, I appear to be even busier than I was a few weeks ago.

Work is a bit stressful at the moment - the Year 7 into 8 Trial Day is next week, and as the incoming Year Coordinator it is my job to organise the whole day. Sounds simple enough right??? Lol well think again. Add the creation of classes, the personalities and agendas of about 60 or so teachers and all the time constraints that usually go along with something like this and there is bound to be problems.

But who cares about the problems - if I dwell on them now, I will be a FLOCKING mess (hehe just had to put that in for the beasties) by next Wednesday. It is going to be a great day, I have a great group of Yr 11 students who are giving up time out of their holidays to help me so it will be a FLOCKING awesome day (hehe had to do it again).

Now on the scrap front, not a lot is going on at the moment, but inspired by the gorgeous, super talented RIH2002, I started working on this calendar with the intention of maybe doing some for my parents and sis as chrissy pressies. I have a bit left to do to it, and need to re-join it with the calendar but this is a sneak peak of it so far:

Not sure when I will get back to finishing it - probably not until after school finishes on December 12.

Til next time

Farewell to another year level

Yes folks, it is that time of year - the time when I farewell another group of Year 12 students.

For almost 10 years, I have had the privilege of being able to be a part of the lives of countless students but having the privilege of teaching Year 12 students is that extra bit special.

yeah you form bonds with most students who cross your path but for some reason by the time they reach Yr 12, something in the relationship changes. Yes the fact that they have matured from the festy, pesky grade 8 and 9's they used to be helps. Now instead of correcting their every move, you can sit and hold a decent converstaion with them, you can listen to their hopes and dreams. And if you are really lucky, you might just be one person who leads them down the path towards achieving that dream.

At the school where i work, we have a valedictory ceremony where each of the yr 12 graduates is farewelled individually. They are given an opportunity to thank people in their lives who have helped them get through their school life and while I am not in this job for the thanks, knowing that students do appreciate the job you do, makes this day all the more special. Sometimes I cannot understand why they thank me - after all, I am just doing my job.

So to those yr 12's - and you know who you are - thanks for being you. Stay true to yourselves and to your dreams. Be everything you want to be .... and more. Go into this world and touch the life of someone like you have touched mine. To my two extra special students - P and A - never let anyone tell you that you are worthless or that you are good enough because you are. The courage that you two have amazes me each and every day and one day, I hope to be as courageous as you.

Stay safe, live life and come back and visit me once in a while.

hemmdawg (just had to do that for you hehehehehe) xoxoxo

Shame, Horror and Embarassment all wrapped up together

AKA The Skirt Incident

Well today has been a day of shame, horror and embarassment. I don't know how long it is going to take me to live this moment down but I am thinking that it will not be any time soon.

Lets just say skirts, extra strong control tights (was hosting an afternoon at school for some of my 'babies' starting next year) and going to the toilet don't mix.

So have you guessed what happened yet??? Do I really have to tell you??? OMG OMG OMG soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo embarassed. Thank goodness (well as much as you can be thankful at a time like that) it was at the end of the afternoon when there was just myself and 5 Year 11 girls cleaning up the area where we had afternoon tea. I don't know who was more embarassed - me for having unknowingly 'flashed' myself to a group of 15 year olds or the girls for having to point out to me that my skirt was 'caught'.

Oh the shame and embarassment. Going to crawl under a rock and die now.

Today I Learnt .....

Today I learnt that busting up that fight a few weeks ago may not have been the best move I have made lately. Don't get me wrong, I would do the same again next time as I feel that it is my duty and responsibility to do the crap jobs like that from time to time but I learnt today that I have done some moderate damage to tendons in my shoulder.

As you know I went to the chiropractor the other day - lets not delve back into that memory again lol - but I had my first follow-up appointment today and told him about the shoulder and what happened and I have been all but banned from the pool for at least 3 weeks. I can kick and do breast stoke but nothing else pout pout pout.

Why is it when you are finally getting excited about something and really wanting to do it - something like this happens.

Oh well it could be worse - the damage could have been much more serious - lol time to break into song - come on people you know the words:

always look on the bright side of life ......................

til next time

Me and Exercise = eeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkkk

Ok so it is like about a bazillion years overdue but I have finally decided that I need to reacquaint myself with exercise.

I have been having a few health issues regarding constant and persistent headaches on and off for years but they have been increasing in intensity of late - well that or my body has made itself immune to the powers of Advil, Nurofen and the like :o - and after getting no joy from conventional medicine (ie GP) I decided to give a chiropractor a go and welllllllllllllllllllllllll talk about embarassment city. Anyway I am not going to shame myself with going into all the gory and horrific details again (I don't need repeat nightmares). Bottom (pardon the pun hehe) line is he can help but I have to help myself and get off my quite large posterior and get out into the world and eekkkkkkkkkkkkkk dare i say it ............ (insert that jaws da dum da dum da dum dum dum music here) EXERCISE.

So while I just happened to be sitting at my computer - strange that ... not hehe - another teacher from my staffroom asked if I wanted to go swimming with her yesterday and I DID.

1km - 20 laps - was what I managed to accomplish and while it is not going to set any world records or anything it was 1km more than I did Saturday.
.....

AND .....

while the boys had their lessons today, I hopped in and did 1.1km - 22 laps. Yay me!!!

Going again in the morning if DH can drag himself away from the tractor to stay at home with the boys.

Anyway enough of the exercise - going to try and share some scrapping goodness finally - if i can get it to work that is:
