This Happened

Earlier this year, the boys had their swimming club presentation night. They both had really successful nights, literally scooping the pool coming home with a handful of trophies each. The only disappointment for the night was the fact that I wasn't happy with any of the photos I took on the night. Rather than let that get me down, I picked my favourite and scrapped it - another memory captured is more important than the photo itself. Here I came up with:
And some close-ups:

Don't let a poor quality photo get you down, scrap that memory anyway.  Converting the photo to black and white make the imperfections of the photo less obvious - just a hint ;)

I Love Simple

When it comes to scrapping styles, I am definitely on the side of simple, simple, simple. Just give me mist, layers of papers, a bit of journalling, a few embellishments and ink to make me happy.

A simple - how I love you.

My Littlest Mate

I have always referred to the boys as my little mates. Mitch is my biggest little mate and Lachie is my littlest little mate. After snapping these photos of Lachie, I knew I just had to use 'littlest mate' somewhere on the layout. A bright, colourful layout with something different for me - washi tape instead of lots of patterned paper.

Love this boy's cheeky grin.

Hash Tag

I will be the first to admit that I'm not really into the whole Hash Tag thing. Yes, I know what Instagram is and I know what it means to tag something, but it doesn't hold much appeal for me. However, in an attempt to pretend that I am younger than what I am, I have decided that I need to embrace the hash tag, if only to use all of my # thickers.
#swimbros - Mitch with two of his best mates at a swimming carnival earlier this year. I love how swimming has helped him develop strong friendships. These boys might compete against each other but they are so supportive and encouraging of each other's efforts. A pretty quick and simple layout - just what I love.

Play Time

Earlier this week I had a lot of time on my hands as I was stuck in a motel room for an afternoon and an evening. I made the most of the most of my time by packing a few bits and pieces to work on some layouts. After a mammoth fortnight of marking exams and assignments and writing reports, I was looking forward to having a few hours just playing.
Focus - a layout of Mitchell from a soccer (football carnival) a few weeks ago. He doesn't like being goalie but when the team's goalie was hurt, Mitch happily volunteered to step in. Love that this boy always puts his team first - sportsmanship wins for me any day.
And some close-ups. The look on Mitch's face is priceless:

Stay tuned for more updates from my day of paper play.

Jot Magazine June Mood Board

This month's mood board challenge features one of my favourite colours at the moment - Mint. The mood board is absolutely amazing - Kim Archer has done an amazing job pulling the board together. Take a look:
How divine is that typewriter? I love my vintage typewriter but adore the colour of this one. Here is my take on the challenge - an attempt to put some of the thoughts that run through my head down on a page.
And some close-ups:
Journalling:
I have very little in my stash in the way of linen so I painted a paper doily to use on the layout.
And what would a layout dedicated to mint be without my favourite flair of all time - The Greatest View mint flair badge.

Catching Up

Today I have three layouts that have been sitting in the pile waiting to be blogged for quite some time. Two were created over the Easter holidays when I was lucky enough to scrap with Donna White, Lauren Bell and Lisa Kamphuis - so fortunate to call these talented ladies my friends.
Layout One: Boy (I printed three 12x12 photos, not knowing which one I would use for Scrap the Boys June challenge). Nothing more to say really, the photo speaks for itself:
Close-ups:

Layout Two: House Captain - Mitchell was selected as one of the Wattle House Captains for 2014. So proud of him.
Layout Three: Cherish. My sisters and nieces at Jo's wedding last September.
Lots of Maggie Holmes here; love me some Maggie Holmes ;)

Kraft it Up - June

Before the madness of end-of-semester marking and reporting hit with a vengeance, I took some time out over the long weekend to have a go at this month's challenge over at Kraft it Up. This month, the criteria was to create a layout using the supplied sketch, the colour pink and paint/mist splatters. Here is the sketch:
And this is what I came up with, using a photo of two of my nieces - such beautiful girls.
Close-ups:
Used some texture paste mixed with some pink paint smeared onto a mask for the background.

I had a blast creating this layout and was the perfect way to relax before the busy week that awaited.

Scrap the Boys and Jot Magazine

June's challenge over at Scrap the Boys would have been my favourite challenge so far while being a member of the Design Team. The challenge was to scrap a photo that is at least 5 x 7. When I discovered that my local Big W store can print 12x12 photos, well that sold it for me. What was even more exciting was that Kim Archer, one talented lady and editor of Jot Magazine, selected this layout to be a part of Issue 6, their first birthday issue - talk about WOW!
And some close-ups of the two embellishment clusters:

I was also fortunate enough to have two of my Project Life inspired creations featured in the magazine with a little snippet on how I use the PL style to document the boys' sporting activities. Very humbling indeed. Thanks for the offer Kim.
Don't forget to upload your challenge to Scrap the Boys by midnight, June 30 for your chance to be in the running for some awesome prizes - remember entries have to be exclusive to STB. Come and let me know, so I can leave you a link.
Thanks for stopping by.

White with One - June

Life has been full of mixed blessings of late. After a few hectic and emotional weeks, I have taken some time out to catch up on blogging layouts I had created but not posted, as well taking some time out to sooth the soul by creating some more. My first share today is for the June White with One Challenge. This month's challenge is to use Pomegranate as the feature colour. This was definitely a challenge indeed as I wasn't 100% about the colour. After seeing all the different interpretations by the design team, this is what I came up with using a photo of my beautiful niece:
And some close ups:

As I said, still not 100% sure if the colour falls under the pomegranate 'shade' but I love it anyway.
